Love, Unexpected; the Story of Kalie and Jonathan

Love, Unexpected; the Story of Kalie and Jonathan

I used to think love was a grand, cinematic moment—dramatic gestures, sweeping romance. But as I’ve grown, I’ve realized love is something quieter, deeper. It’s an open heart, a willingness to heal, a surrender to something bigger than yourself.

It doesn’t always arrive with notice. Sometimes, love appears in the smallest moments, catching you off guard.

That’s exactly how Kalie describes the first time she met Jonathan. It was her last day at university of PEI, and she and her roommate were hosting a small gathering to celebrate. “The room froze as he walked in,” she told me, “and we talked all night.”

Their love story unfolded quickly from there. When Kalie had an accident, Jonathan stepped in to care for her. Soon after, he moved to Halifax to be with her.

I met this sweet couple at a market a few months ago. They had this young, fun energy, and when I randomly asked them to do a photoshoot with me, they just said yes. I simply told them, “I have a vision,” and for some reason, they trusted me. Maybe they liked my energy too.

Little did they know, this shoot held a deeper meaning for me than any I’ve done before.

In August 2024, on a short but sweet road trip to Quebec, Allan asked me to marry him.

I never imagined I’d be the kind of person who gets swept up in the moment—I’ve always been the one capturing it. But as we started talking about weddings and engagement photos, I realized I needed to see love through my own lens first. I needed to find my angle for our story and trust my own vision.

So, together with Jonathan and Kalie, I created these images while they modeled for the brand—my vision of an elegant, timeless couple who embrace spontaneity, fun, and effortless style in downtown Halifax.

The clothing they modelled have a story of it's own:

Kalie is wearing a Secondhand Reformation dress; Jonathan is wearing a Vintage Armani Blazer - both Items are listed for sale.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed bringing them to life. If you did, make sure to follow us on Instagram find out more about Jonathan and Kalie.
